High desert ruminations

The eagle swoops low
Perches so high above us
Piercing eyes watch ducks.
Her tail is so broad
Like a brilliant angel wing
Caressing my cheek.
Calmness of the woods
Just the padding of his feet
My dear companion.
Nature’s orchestra
The rushing of the rapids
Sun brightly glinting.
Our reverie ends
Chatting folk pass on the trail
Enjoying the woods.
Silence is the norm
Between Chester and myself
Gratitude brings peace.
We walked to a pond
But the water was all gone
Just dry marsh grasses.
High desert visit
We eat lunch in our backyard
In our neighborhood.
I empty my glass
Yin and Yang look back at me
I smile with surprise.
Balance is my goal
Today is a reminder
Of all that is good.
